Steam Whistle Show

  • I've started this new post to carry on the discussion around the potential show at the Steam Whistle's gallery. If you want to comment about the Annual Show, please use that post.

So far, a number of members are interested in participating.

    Questions have been raised regarding:

    1. Plein air or not plein air. Yes, paintings for the show must be plein air.
    2. Free vs fee. There will be a hanging fee of around $50 and 25% commission payable to OPAS.
    3. When will the show be held. No idea. We don't even know if our proposal will be accepted.
    4. Who can participate? Any member in good standing, as long as they say they want to participate within the next few days and send me a high quality photo of one of their best paintings, plus a CV. Steam Whistle requires both of these.
    5. Why such a rush? The application deadline is November 1. If we miss it, we're out of luck.
    6. If the space is free, why is OPAS charging. We need cash to help promote the event. OPAS can always use extra income to fund our events.
    7. How many paintings can we each show? No idea yet. Once we see a floorplan we can figure out such things.
    8. Does this replace the Annual Show? No, this is a special opportunity that has come our way, which we are trying to take advantage of.
    9. Do we have to volunteer to sit gallery hours? We're not sure yet. Artists might have to attend to hang their work. We certainly want as any as possible to attend the opening party.
    10. How can members from out of the GTA participate? Members who live somewhat close to each other might carpool, or one member take a number of members' works with them to Toronto.

Please keep asking questions and sending me notes to say that you would like to participate. This could be a great opportunity to raise the profile of OPAS, as well as that of the participating members.

    Cheers,

    Keith Thirgood

    KeithThirgood Hi Jennifer,
It's not to do with any minimum number. It's do do with hosting a decent show, or more specifically, looking like we can present a decent showing from across the province.
I've put out a reminder, and members are already responding with their...  more

KeithThirgood Our proposal, CVs and photos of our work have gone off to Steam Whistle for their consideration. Thanks to all members who participated. Our final count was 18 artists.
Now we wait for their decision.
