Helen and I have finished developing our line-up of art retreats for 2014.

June 21-24: Ottawa Valley with OPAS member John Alexander Day as instructor. I'm sure you've noticed John's postings. He's a dynamic artist, not afraid of colour and great at capturing the effects of light on the landscape. And he's a great teacher as well. He was the original instructor for our first workshop, and we've been waiting for a number of years for his schedule to work with ours.

This 3-day retreat is all inclusive and has proven to be one of our most popular retreats. Click here for more information.

August 1-4: Small Town Ontario with OPAS member Don Cavin. Don is a fantastic reductionist painter. His bold, minimalist canvases fetch high prices in the art market. Don is also a great teacher. He has a way of helping artists get past fussiness and get to the essence of a great design, which is the basis of all successful art.

Located near Westport, which is north of Kingston, over 3-days we will visit a number of small town locations and help you discover how to capture that small town feeling, without sliding into the sentimentality so prevalent in much of small town art today.

Spouses / friends welcome.  Click here for more information.

August 6-10: Backcountry canoeing and painting in the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park with Phil Chadwick. Phil is an experienced canoeist as well as an artist whose roots trace back to Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven.

This is a canoe-in retreat. We provide the canoe, however, you provide your own camping equipment, food, etc.

There is only room for 7 participants. Click here for more information.

September 12-17: 4 -days in the Killarney La Cloche region with Helen Walter and Keith Thirgood as instructors. Killarney is a fantastic place. The Near North. It's a place where the Group of Seven did a lot of painting. We travel by pontoon boat to the various painting locations and stay in rustic cabins. Our hosts provide all our meals.

    Spouses welcome.

No great amount of hiking required to get to see the most amazing scenery. Click here for more information.

September 22 to 26: Killbear Provincial Park on Georgian Bay with Keith Thirgood and Helen Walter as instructors. Another 4-day retreat, however, in this one we are staying in Killbear Lodge. You get all the wildness of the Georgian Bay shoreline with the comfort of the huge lodge, which we have all to ourselves.

In this retreat, to lower the cost, participants cook their own meals in the large Lodge kitchen. Spouses/friends are encouraged to attend. Click here for more information.

We also run a series of one-day, plein air workshops to help artists who are new to plein air painting  get started and start producing better work. Click here for more information on these.

I hope that some of these are of interest to OPAS members.

    Cheers,

    Keith Thirgood and Helen Walter
