    1 Day Plein Air Workshop

Have you ever wanted to paint outdoors in the open air, but didn't know how to begin or wasn't sure how to make your plein air artwork successful? whether you are a beginner or a successful studio artist who wants to take your work outdoors, this is the workshop for you.

Join Zan Barrage, plein air artist and founder and past president of Ontario Plein Air Society as he help you demystify the art of painting outdoors in oil and watercolours.

In this one day workshop, you will learn how to:

1-  Control Landscape composition, and build design in your painting
2-  Train your observation skills and simplify the landscape
3-  Use Notan and thumb nail sketches to tame the landscape to your desired painting
4-  Understand your colours, and key your painting dominant hues
5-  Master values and control your paints
6-  Putting it all together as you paint field sketches and paintings
7-  Tips and tricks to making outdoor painting an enjoyable and successful experience for you.

We will begin the day with a few exercises to help you see the landscape in terms of composition and design. You will then learn how to tame the nature around us and mold it to your artistic purpose. A quick demo to outline basic concepts of colour, value and perspective will put it all together.

The rest of the day will be spent applying what you have learned while  you paint. One on one attention and guidance to all members of the class is the hallmark of the workshop. The class is designed small so we can work together and so no one is left behind. No matter what your painting experience is, you will gain confidence and develop skills that will help you on your way to become a successful plein air artist.

Learning to paint outdoors is the key goal of this one day workshop, but we will have a lot of fun doing that.

Locations TBD but they will be in easy access from the west GTA area (Peel, Halton Hill, Oakville). We will car pool if needed.

Only 8 spots per workshop are available. Groups can be arranged. Please email me for dates and rates.
